Hello, all! Just joined the group and wanted to share a trailer to my latest film "P.A.T.H." which stands for Preserving, Archiving & Teaching Hip-Hop History. The film documents the P.A.T.H. Hip-Hop summer camp which was hosted by Miami Light Project. I am looking for venues to screen the film to raise funds for this program. Watch the trailer here: http://bit.ly/15XqM
Any feedback will be appreciated. . .thanks!

We've updated the web site for Cabrini Connections and added some videos that show what kids think of their volunteers and our organization. I hope you'll take a look.

The Economy of Home: Living Broke in Boom (or Broke) Times is a film screening and discussion that will be at Miami Beach Regional Library next Wednesday, the 19th, from 6:30-8:30. I just added it as an event here--check it out for more info. If you're in Miami and interested in the arts and social change, we hope to see you there!

Thanks for setting up this site. I have been a contributor on Social Edge for many years. I also created a ning.com group at http://tutormentorconnection.ning.com

I encourage you to view the way I use maps to show all of the places in Chicago where tutor/mentor programs are needed, and concept maps to show strategies that lead to more and better tutor/mentor programs in a geographic region.

If documentaries can point to web sites with maps and blueprints, I feel that can be an even more powerful force for social change.

HI everyone-- take a look at the discussion at the Skoll Foundation's Social Edge forum on social entrepreneurship and documentaries. There are some valuable insights for activists and filmmakers alike: http://www.socialedge.org/discussions/marketing-communication/stories-of-change

www.snagfilms.com

Just launched today, this is an online distribution portal for full-length docs with a social messaging component. Very good news for doc filmmakers who face distribution challenges-- and great news for activists who want to market cause through film.

Seeking Proposals: Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program: Stories of Change

The Sundance Institute Documentary Film Program and the Skoll Foundation have partnered in a three-year initiative to explore how independent feature-length documentary film can advance knowledge about social entrepreneurship.

The Stories of Change Fund will consider independent feature-length documentary projects in all categories of development, production and post-production. Completed films are note eligible. Film projects must be completed by 2010. Grant awards will be made on a case-by-case basis and may range up to $150,000 US per film.

Request for Proposals: Seeking proposals for documentary films that combine the art of storytelling with topics in the field of social entrepreneurship.

For complete information and to apply, visit sundance.org/skoll. Deadline for submissions is August 15, 2008.

as a doc filmmaker i would say that most of us think about telling a story that makes a difference and adds to the dialog of social change
one of those films that comes to mind is
Total Denial by Milena Kaneva- is the story of a historic lawsuit: Fifteen villagers from the jungles of Burma bringing suit against a giant oil corporation for human-rights abuses, in U.S. courts. After ten years of fierce legal battles, the impossible victory.

For five years producer/director Milena Kaneva, has been documenting abuses of Burmese villagers caused by the Yadana pipeline. Her ?guide? during this journey was Ka Hsaw Wa, introduced by Kerry Kennedy in her book Speak Truth to Power www.totaldenialfilm.com/

Hi Lina: It's very interesting to your proposal. Working for supporting social change in my country of birth, but at the moment I do not have the resources or human or economic resources in order to bring together people in this endeavour. I just have my daily effort and my hope that the situation has to change. If you need support from Miami, tells me.

Look at that! I know three of the four outspoken, engaged people here. Hi guys. BYkids has been busy. We have two films in production - one being done by a 16-year-old orphaned by AIDS in Mozambique and the other being done by the 16-year-old exiled King of Tibet. Both are being mentored by world-class Film Mentors. Mozambique is being edited now and filming continues in India with the King. We had our first benefit in NYC on March 10 attended by over 200 guests, raising more than $50,000 and organized by a 17-year-old wonder. It was a spirited night of fashion and music and fun. See the photos at www.BYkids.org. Please check out the trailer of BYkids: Mozambique at www.BYkids.org/trailer.php. I welcome your input on story ideas and funding sources.
